Kristen Topka

Nominated By: Anyeliz Perez

School Name: Honeycutt Elementary

My daughter was in Kindergarten when I first met Mrs. Topka. My daughter loved her so much that I requested her to be her first grade teacher the following year. My daughter is now in Mrs. Topkas first grade class. I have never seen such a teacher that cares about her student like she does. My daughter is falling behind in school and we had a parent teacher conference and I brought up something's and Mrs. Topka started to cry because she felt so bad that Yadi was not enjoying school and was falling behind. My daughter loves her teacher and Mrs. T  is the best teacher! She entrtains the kids in so many different ways. The thing I love most about her is that she says things like "Have a sparkly day!" even on days that there is no school. Sometimes I may call her on the weekend to ask her a question and she always says something cheerful and perky that always makes me smile. :)

Being that I am a senior in high school, I have had many teachers in my life time. While I do appreciate each and every one of them, there has been one to stand out. Mrs. Samantha Hondorp is one of the best teachers I have ever known. She has put herself aside on many occasions to help me or support me when I needed her. I know that no matter what is going on I can count on her to be there for me. She is one of my biggest role models and has inspired me to push myself and work harder than I thought I could and has helped me to achieve the potential that she somehow always knew I possessed. She has forever altered my life and helped me grow into the young woman that I currently am. I have known Mrs. Hondorp as my teacher, my coach, and I’ve known her as my friend. There is no teacher more worthy of being Q98’s Teacher of the Week than Mrs. Samantha Hondorp.

Mrs. Kellie Parsons of Upchurch Elementary School

Nominated By: Jamie Brawer

Mrs. Parsons got hired a few months after the school year started. From the moment she walked into the classroom, she has made leaps and bounds with her students.  For my son personally, his behavior has improved, his love of learning is much more appreciative, and he enjoys going to school now.  Not only does she put her heart and soul in to her classrom and students, she invests her time and energy into every thing she does in the classrom.  She updates her classroom website very often. For example, I was able to pre-test my son on his spelling words while he was sick today.  She makes my job easier as a parent. To know that I can trust her with my child is truly honoring.

Tawana Cunningham of Gray's Creek High School

Nominated By: Christina Ann Jones

The reason why i believe Ms. Cunningham deserves the teacher of the week award is because, this woman works extremely hard and doesn't get the credit I think she deserves. And I'm not just saying that. "Mama Cunningham" is an extraordinary theatre teacher, but on top of that she runs the school musical and all the plays that we do as classes. This year she even took time from the multiple plays she was directing and helped out with stage work for Stoney Point's Trail of Terror.  She cares for all her students like they are her own kids, that is why most of us call her mama. She strives those kids who are shy and hold back to come out of their shells and bring a little art to the world. Cunningham may be a tough teacher, but if you ask anyone around school they will tell you that by the time they are done with that class they have learned how to stand up, be brave, and capture the character inside of them. She is a wonderful romodel, an inspiring performer, and an all around fun "wackadoodle".
