Katrenna S. Rich 12-30-11

Nominated By: Christina Williams

Grade/Subject: Prncipal
School Name: Howard Health and Life Sciences High School
School Address: 1608 Camden Rd, Fayetteville, NC 28306

This is actually a principal not a teacher. I still hope she gets considered. Dr.Rich has been my daughter's principal since she started high school in 2009 in 9th grade. She goes above and beyond her role as a principal, Dr. Rich cares, really cares for our children, not just their education. My daughter recently made a very, for lack of a better word, stupid choice while in school. She has never, ever been in trouble until this point, she is in 11th grade. Dr. Rich was not judgemental in the least. She could have signd dicipline papers, taken my child out of her school and let it be done; but she did not do that. Now my daugher was wrong and at fault 100% but because Dr. Rich takes the time to KNOW your child personally, she knew this was not my child's normal behavior. She pleaded her case for my daughter, to help her the best she could. Due to the principal's determination, concern and love for her students and their education,

My daughter's future education will not be compromised and she will be continuing her studies with Dr. Rich as her principal. I was truly moved by the care she showed my daughter and me, because she knew who we were and we were not just another student and parent. Please consider her for teacher of the week, she deserves it, she deserves principal of the year.

When it comes to teachers, Mrs. Fredericks is the real deal! She is everything a good teacher should be and more. We were lucky enough to have Mrs Fredericks enter our family's life 2 years ago as my daughter, Hailey's teacher. Hailey had never really enjoyed school and was not the most eager attendee. In addition, Hailey's Dad was deployed at the beginning of the school year. I thought it was going to be a rough year, but thanks to Mrs. Fredericks' engaging teaching methods and caring attitude, Hailey had a great year and began to enjoy going to school. I truly credit Mrs. Fredericks for instilling a love of learning, and continued straight "A" report cards!

On September 2, 2011 this teacher who has known my son for 4 days of school saved his life. My son has life threatening food allergies and he ate something that he did not know contained nuts. She immediately saw him and properly responded making a very serious life threatening sitaution into a mild reaction for my son. I have written a letter to her principal because I would like her good deed to be recognized. Thank you for the chance to nominate her.

In just 4 short weeks, my son has absolutely fallen in love with Kindergarten. He comes home everyday singing songs and rhymes to help him remember to spell a word or how to write his numbers properly. As a former Hoke County teacher, I have never seen such love and passion from a teacher to her students. Ms. Gilchrist has constantly gone above and beyond to keep parents informed of upcoming events or school activities. She has called me from her personal cell phone to let me know how my son's day went. She is extremely passionate towards the students learning not only for Kindergarten but in their school years ahead. Whenever I see Ms. Gilchrist, she has a smile on her face~ and so do her students. Ms. Gilchrist's dedication towards her students, her school, and her community makes her a fantastic Q98 Teacher of the Week.
