Drake and Taylor Swift are drawing attention to a music release strategy that gives existing albums another opportunity to climb the charts.
Drake released four additional tracks on October 2 as part of HABIBTI (FOMO), an expanded edition of his May album. The new songs entered the Hot 100, with Solar Eclipse, featuring Don Toliver, reaching No. 5.
The release also helped HABIBTI climb from No. 116 to No. 2 on the Billboard 200, demonstrating the commercial impact of adding new material to an existing project.
Just one week earlier, Taylor Swift followed a similar approach with The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore, introducing four bonus songs that also secured positions on the Hot 100.
Deluxe editions have long been part of the music industry, allowing artists to extend an album’s lifespan through additional recordings.
The back-to-back releases highlight how a relatively small collection of new songs can generate fresh streaming activity and renewed chart interest without requiring an entirely new album.
