The popular EDM festival Tomorrowland in Antwerp, Belgium was at risk of cancellation after a massive fire destroyed their main stage on Wednesday (July 17), just one day before the festival was scheduled to begin. Despite the setback, the festival was able to continue thanks to Metallica, who airlifted their M72 World Tour stage from storage in Austria overnight and quickly assembled it at the festival grounds. This allowed headlining acts like Swedish House Mafia, David Guetta, Steve Aoki, Dillon Francis, Deadmau5, and Eric Prydz to proceed with their performances as planned. The news of Metallica’s involvement was first made by Dutch DJ Martin Garrix, who shared a photo of him and Lars Ulrich on Instagram on Friday, and captioned his post: “My set at Tomorrowland is still happening! 🙏 massive love and a big shoutout to the incredible @tomorrowland team for pulling off miracles — and to @Metallica for coming through with the new stage parts 🤘❤️ this will hands down be the most unique Tomorrowland ever.” Metallica responded to the post with a “🖤” in the comments.
